LiveWire Testing Service
Detection and Location of Intermittent Faults
LiveWire Test Labs will dispatch its trained technicians directly to your site, to help you diagnose the most aggravating of your electrical problems – intermittent faults. Step 1 is to contact our staff and discuss the details of your electrical environment and the problems you face, to make sure the LiveWire technology is applicable, and to customize our tools for your environment. The following items will need to be discussed prior to an on-site visit:
- wire and connector types;
- reproducibility of the fault;
- network topography (e.g. branching)
- wire lengths involved.
If we make a site visit and can’t determine the distance to fault, you don’t pay. It’s that simple. The only provisos are that we accurately confirm the nature of the electrical environment at your site, and that the fault is reproduced while we’re there.

LiveWire Mobile Service Packs
Once LiveWire has determined, in collaboration with your technical staff, that the LiveWire technology is applicable to your electrical testing environment and issues, Mobile Service Packs can be provided for insertion onto troublesome circuits. These batter-powered Mobile Service Packs monitor the live circuit for up to 10 hours, sending the SSTDR signal and recording the reflected signals. The stored data is then sent electronically to LiveWire, where our expert staffers interpret the signal and pinpoint the time, type (open vs. short), and location of the fault.
Once your technicians have been trained and our systems are calibrated to your environment, the signal analysis software will be provided for use on virtually any Windows-based PC. Then you can deploy Mobile Service Packs on any and all live circuits that need monitoring for intermittent failures.
LiveWire Integrated Circuits
In March 2009, LiveWire will release an integrated circuit that can be imbedded into existing power distribution systems for real-time monitoring of up to four live electrical circuits per chip. Key specifications include:
- test modes: STDR (spectrum time domain Reflectometry) and SSTDR (spread spectrum time domain Reflectometry)
- test frequencies: 1.5 MHz to 144 MHz
- typical power injected: 40 nano-watts
- maximum power injected: 0.6 mW
- packaging: QFN (7x7 mm, 44-pin) and TQFP (10x10 mm, 44-pin, 0.8mm pitch)
